NYAEYoung Composers Competition 2001
Evan Johnson is the NYAE 2001
Young Composer Competition Winner
Congratulations to Evan Johnson. His composition, Shards, for solo piano, has won the New York Art Ensemble 2001 Young Composer Competition. Mr. Johnson’s piece will be performed by the NYAE during our 2001-2002 concert season, and he will receive a cash prize of $250. Evan Johnson is an undergraduate student at Yale University, where he studies composition with Kathryn Alexander and Matthew Suttor.


Honorable Mention

The NYAE would like to recognize the following composers with an Honorable Mention:

Robert Farren, who is a student at Indiana University, for his composition Psychopation, for violin and piano.

Erol Gurol, who is currently studying at the University of Southern California, for his composition,Two Poems for Violin and Piano.



Information regarding next year's competition will be posted during the Fall of 2001. The New York Art Ensemble would like to extend its most sincere thanks to all composers who participated in the competition.
